CHELMSFORD PARADE COMMITTEE, INC.  - 4TH OF JULY PARADE 2014

The Chelmsford Parade Committee, Inc. is looking forward to the Town of Chelmsford 47th Annual 4th of July Parade which is being held on Friday, July 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.

Our incredible team of members who are appointed by the Town Manager include, Tom Boucher, Jim Cullen, Hank Hamelin, Jeff Hardy, Kathy Kelley, Chuck Marcella, Lynn Marcella, Rich McLaughlin, Brian Reidy, Rick Romano, Deb Trask and Arlene Wood. Thanks to our Town Manager Paul Cohen who is a great help coordinating everything we needed with the Town.  We are always looking for volunteers for the day of the parade, in particular, banner carriers to be in the parade.  Feel free to contact any committee member if you would like to help out.

We appreciate the following who were sponsors of last year’s parade:

Red Sponsors:  Chelmsford Business Association, Enterprise Bank, and Lockheed Martin;

White Sponsors: Harrington Wine & Liquors and Republic Services;

Blue Sponsors: Chelmsford Lumber Company, Eastern Bank, Ferreira’s Towing, Lowell Five, Mercury Systems, Parlee Horse Farm – South Chelmsford, Trinity EMS and Waste Management.

We would like to offer any business or individual the opportunity to be a sponsor this year.  Take a look at our sponsorship form on the web site.

We will again be hanging beautiful red, white and blue banners with the parade committee logo in Chelmsford Center, Vinal Square and on Drum Hill Road.  Please contact any committee member or take a look at the Summer Banner form on our web site.

We are encouraging organizations, neighborhoods and businesses to enter a float in the parade.  There is no charge to have a float in the parade and this year we will be offering four (4) $300.00 prizes to floats!!

Our Parade Marshal this year will be named soon – a wonderful citizen of Chelmsford who truly deserves this honor!

We will again have our raffles:

Sports Extravaganza Raffle which is $10.00 per ticket.  The winner receives two “premium seat tickets” to the following:  Patriot’s game, Celtics game, Red Sox game, Bruins game and New England Revolution game.

Cash Raffle which is $1.00 per ticket.  First prize:  $1,655.00; Second prize:  $500.00; and five (5) prizes of $100.00 each.  Tickets will be mailed early May – watch for them in your mail box!

This year’s parade promises to be an exciting event!  There will be some great new participants!  Hope you plan to join us on Friday, July 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.!!

The town is asking residents to please wait until July 2nd to put your chairs out on the parade route.  No need to have them out too far in advance... It is a problem for our disabled residents who need to use the sidewalks.

CHELMSFORD PARADE COMMITTEE, INC.

CHELMSFORD 4TH OF JULY PARADE

REGISTRATION:  There will be a registration table at the entrance to the driveway at McCarthy Middle School.  Please have someone in your group stop and register so we know you are there and we can tell you what location you need to be in.

TIME:  Units will begin lining up at 7:00 a.m. at McCarthy Middle School on North Road in Chelmsford.  This is just off the Drum Hill “Rotary” area.  The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. promptly.

PICK-UP SPOT FOR SHUTTLE BUSSES:  Please park your vehicles at the Chelmsford Public Library, the Shops on Summer Street or in front of the old Marshall’s and Stop & Shop buildings.   Busses will be picking up riders along side of the old Marshall’s building on Summer Street.  Busses will be available to take anyone marching in the parade to McCarthy Middle School.   The parade will end at Summer Street in Chelmsford Center so your vehicles will be right there at the end of the parade.

THE LAST BUS: WILL LEAVE SUMMER STREET AT 9:00 A.M.  IF YOU DO NOT GET THE BUS YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO BE DROPPED OFF BY 9:00 A.M. AS NORTH ROAD WILL BE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC AT 9:00 A.M.

PARKING:  There will be no parking at McCarthy Middle School on North Road where the parade begins.  This area is needed to stage the parade and space is very limited for all the units we have.

BAND BUSSES:  Band busses will be allowed to drop band members off at the school and then can proceed to the Summer Street parking areas.  This is where the parade will end so the busses will be convenient for your band members.  The bands will be lined up at the right of McCarthy Middle School between the school and the police station.

FLOATS:  We are requesting that no water guns, hoses, etc. be on any of the floats.  Last year the electronics in a float was ruined, expensive camera equipment was damaged and the inside of a truck had problems with water.  YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY WATER DAMAGE.  FLOATS WILL BE INSPECTED BY PARADE COMMITTEE MEMBERS.

In order to be eligible for Judging of your float, it must be at McCarthy and totally put together by 9:00 a.m.

Vehicle drivers are responsible for the safety of passengers in the vehicle and on the float.  Floats should have “spotters” on each side of the float watching out for the safety of their passengers.

Please use caution when distributing candy during the parade.  Do not throw candy from vehicles or floats.  Please have designated walkers hand out candy.  We don’t want children running in front of moving vehicles to get candy that is thrown out.

DRINKING WATER:  Generally it is a hot day, please be sure to have “plenty” of drinking water – stay hydrated!!

The Chelmsford Police Department and Parade Officials have complete authority over the parade.

Please take a look at our web site for maps and additional information about the parade.

DVD's of the documentary are available at the Chelmsford Copy Center in Parlmont Plaza for $10 each. You'll probably laugh, shed a tear, and enjoy seeing many people from town. This is a fantastic documentary produced and directed by Fred Barzyk about our town's Independence Day celebrations.

Guidelines regarding the distribution of candy and use of water toys in the parade can be found on the parade application to the right. As always we ask for your cooperation in keeping our parade safe and enjoyable for all!
